Police Blotter
О чём книга
A police precinct in a large city is a filter bed, a giant sieve straining the sewage of crime that flows endlessly through its dingy corridors and across its leaving stains of grief and horror, fear and disappointment, terror, hopelessness, and too often pain and blood. In New York’s 52nd Precinct, Lt. Clancy’s blotter was soiled by the debris of a big city’s crime. From the IRT at 86th Street there was a report on a “subway jumper.” On Riverside Drive, an old man who lived in a large house littered with newspapers, tin cans, rags, and cigar-boxes had been murdered. A worn-out old shoeshine man reported sixteen dollars — his days earnings — stolen from his box. And at the other end of the scale, a UN delegate had been threatened with a short life. This was an ordinary day for Lt. Clancy, and as the reader follows him through the sordid, often dangerous, world of petty and major crime, the never-ending tension and drama of the stories on the police blotter explode with dynamic force.
